Things couldn’t be different for them, because they weren’t special after all. I’m really glad I did pick it up. There is so much I enjoyed about this first book in the series that it is difficult to condense my feelings for you in one blog post, but here I go.

Also, this book is no love story! I appreciated the fact that Ans didn’t go easy on Gemma. This novel completely transcends hreat and does terroble well. There is this trend in YA where the main character is hounded by other girls and is left to only only associate with some handsome male throneofglasscougchcough and it is so great to read a story about friendship and sisterhood.


I loved Libba Bray’s writing style, though, so I can’t wait to pick up her other books and maybe one day continue on with this series, but at this point I’m not sure. Magic and Fantasy Book type: But she grows throughout the novel and the book- and begins to view those different from her differently. I loved the juxtaposition of Victorian England, colonial Libga, and the fairy world. In conclusion, I basically ran out of give-a-damn.

The only way for her to ever be at peace is for Gemma to forgive her. I want to read the sequel, Rebel Angels, which I consider a good sign. Even so, A Great and Terrible Beauty was a pleasurable read.

The lasting effect resulted in the proverbial round peg, gret hole dilemma. Lists with This Book. Her friends, Pippa, Felicity and Ann are just as complicated. And not terriblw that is dark, horrible and nightmarish is bad. Seriously, I could and if I ever have the time, will make a list of young adult lit that employ that infamous word! I thought I would be exposed to authors I hadn’t heard of, my understanding of young adult fiction was limited and I looked forward to exapnding it.

First, we never see the full scope of Gemma’s supposedly special “powers,” in fact it seems they are limited to her ability to transport her friends into the Realms to do rather silly and childish things.
